We all know the drill. The new school year starts, and we’re determined that THIS will be the year that our kids finally get good sleep habits. We’re going to be more organized, we’re going to get them to bed on time, no more screen time in bed, etc, etc. But then a month in… what happens? Life happens. The dog has an accident on the floor, there’s a big project due at work, your kid’s best friend is having a sleepover… and suddenly all our good intentions have gone out the window.
In this episode of the Mastermind Parenting Podcast, I coach parents on how to deal with the inevitable backsliding that occurs when school starts, like trying to maintain good sleep habits for our kids (and ourselves!). I offer practical tips and advice on how to have conversations with our kids about why getting enough sleep is important, how to create a bedtime routine that works for everyone, and what to do when things inevitably go off the rails.
Today you will be hearing some questions and scenarios from our last Weekend Warm Up call. The Weekend Warm Up is a free coaching call that I do once a month. It’s the third Friday of the month, and you simply sign up to get coached by me for free. I started the Weekend Warm Up because I wanted to get to know my podcast listeners. I wanted to have a relationship with them that wasn’t just one-sided.
During these calls, I coach parents through their parenting challenges or concerns. Today we’re focusing on children backsliding in their progress, whether it be sleep, responsibilities, or waking up on time. Right now, we often see kids needing some reminders and strategies to help the family get back on track for a successful school year.
Here are just some of the things I cover during this call:
- How do you get your kiddo to sleep by himself after 18 months of bedtime struggle?
- How do you get a ten-year-old to be more responsible around the house?
- How do you prevent backsliding after a strong start to the school year?
