21: Top 3 Tips for Managing Fortnite & Other Video Game Obsessions

In this episode, I recorded a FB Live in response to a podcast listener’s request for help with her teen son’s Fortnite addiction. There are 3 simple steps I cover in terms of navigating the boundaries around video game balance. This is realistic guidance for those of us who allow our kids to play video games and want to supervise and manage the situation without it becoming a constant power struggle. We are looking for video game balance. This is not a relevant episode for parents that have a screen free household…and for the record, hats off to ya! I’m secretly jealous and missed the boat on being able to pull that one off. Plus, if I’m really being honest, I’ve used technology as a sanity saving babysitter with my kids over the years. Just keeping it real people!

Topics covered:

  • 3 tips:

       1. Adopt a set of rules and communicate at a non/relevant           time using Pack Leadership language and assertiveness.

       2. Expect to remind and repeat often.

       3. Follow through consistently without matching your child’s         upset attitude.

  • Laying the foundation with a productive convo
  • Addiction and how video game addiction compares to smoking or HEROIN!
  • Strong willed kiddos and why these tips work with all kids.
  • Productive convos are logical and respectful and therefore you’re kids are receptive.

As always, thanks for listening, and be sure and head over to Facebook and you can join my free group Mastermind Parenting Community, where we post tips and tools and do pop up Live conversations where I do extra teaching and coaching to support you in helping your strong-willed children so that they can FEEL better and DO better.
